The soft and supple feel of wild boar leather fits comfortably in your hand, making it a pleasure to use. The zipper pull is made from a wild boar tusk, creating a truly one-of-a-kind piece. Both the body of the pen case and the zipper pull are “fragments of life” from a wild boar. Each animal lived a unique life in the wild, and you can enjoy the differences in texture and character—one of the special qualities of gibier leather. At our HUMMINGBIRD studio, we process the hides starting from the raw skin. Wild boar culling numbers continue to rise every year, and the sad reality is that most are simply discarded. Because their lives were taken out of necessity, we want to honor them— and use what remains with care, right to the very end. Approx. 12 cm ⸻ About Our Leather • All wild boar leather from Gibier Leather HUMMINGBIRD is tanned using natural, environmentally friendly ingredients like mimosa and acacia. • Safe for everyone—from babies to adults. The term “Gibier Leather” may be unfamiliar, but it represents our commitment to reusing wild boars culled each year (over 600,000 annually) instead of discarding them (95% are still discarded). Starting from the fur, we handcraft each piece with care, from design to completion. The tanning process is handled by Yasashii Kawa in Sumida, Tokyo. These lives were taken out of necessity to maintain balance with humans.
